My Story

Appa is playful, sweet, loving, and affectionate. His favorite things in the world are people who can snuggle and pet him, his siblings, feather toys, food, treats…..maybe he just likes everything. A funny story about Appa: Like many kittens, Appa found his first experience with a vacuum to be quite scary. While his siblings sensibly moved to a room away from the vacuum, and huddled together until it was done, Appa wanted comfort, not from his nervous siblings, but from his fosters. He tried to huddle up next to the legs of his foster, who ended up narrowly avoiding tripping over him as they tried to vacuum. A compromise was that he could be held and carried around as his foster vacuumed. This sums up Appa. Sweet, loving, gentle, but (and don’t tell him this) perhaps not the brightest. Appa’s approximate birthdate is April 22, 2024. During our routine viral screening, Appa tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). What does this mean? The test screens for antibodies to the virus, meaning the body’s immune defense to the virus. If Appa’s mom was FIV+, Appa could have received Mom’s defense to the virus from her milk that the test is picking up on, without Appa being infected himself. When he is 6 months old, he will need to be retested. At this time, his mom’s antibodies will be gone and the test will be able to determine whether or not he is truly infected with the disease. Cats who truly have FIV can live long and normal lives, and may never suffer any ill effects from the disease. As a precaution, we recommend cats with FIV be adopted into homes without other cats. Since Appa’s FIV status is still unknown until he is 6 months old, we recommend he is adopted into a home without other cats, or adopted with one of his siblings (Naga, Pabu, or Foo Foo Cuddlypoops), who are all in the same situation as him. For more information about FIV positive tests in kittens, please reach out to our adoptions team or visit this link with information from one of our rescue partners: https://www.kittenlady.org/fiv If you're interested in adopting any of our kittens please fill out the adoption application and please note which kitten you're interested in meeting: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSenKCEx6kQ-VU9okR7C70MDijsjDHV1VO_7XlBR33tlpsYrUQ/viewform Please allow up to 48-72 hours after submitting an application to reach out regarding the adoption process - thank you!
