My Story

Squints is a cute male kitten who was brought to the HSOV on April 11, 2026 by a Good Samaritan who found him on East Spring Street in Marietta Ohio. Squints was sitting on a sidewalk by himself with no mother or siblings in sight. Squints was estimated to have been 8-weeks old and was a tiny, frail little baby who weighed just 1.5 lbs .. Squints was desperately in need of medical attention since his left eye was extremely enlarged, and he appeared to have an upper respiratory infection. Fortunately for him, our HSOV kennel techs quickly took him under their angel wings and gave him good foods, antibiotics, and daily doses of loving attention. Squints has a gray tabby shorthaired coat, white socks on his paws, a long tail, and (in our eyes) a beautiful kitten face with a pink/gray nose and long white whiskers. This little waif melted our hearts, and we were determined to take the best care of him with the end goal of finding him a dream home where he would (figuratively) go from 'rags to riches' and enjoy the good life which he deserved. Squints spent the first week or two in our front office where he had constant attention, medical care, and a nice warm heating pad in his carrier. Squints was given Ofloxacin otic solution in both of his eyes in addition to oral Azithromycin antibiotic. His enlarged eye ruptured but gradually we began to see a bit of improvement not only in his physical condition but also with his social behavior. He was no longer a frightened kitten and his playful outgoing personality began to emerge. Squints was given vaccinations and dewormer on April 29, 2026. He was given booster vaccines on May 19th and weighed 2.1 lbs that day. Squints underwent surgery on June 2nd 2026 for the enucleation (removal) of his left eye. He was also neutered while under anesthesia. Squints weighed 2.7 lbs on June 2nd. Squints has made a remarkable transformation in his physical appearance and also his social behavior after being with us for the past two months. Squints is a playful, very active youngster who is a wanna-be shoulder kitty, and he also loves to nibble on fingers and run his paws through your hair (smile). Squints is nearly ready to find the dream home that we envisioned for him, and we are currently accepting adoption application for Squints. These updated photos were taken on June 16th while HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver was engaging Squints in playtime (which he dearly loved). Squints' surgical sutures have been removed, and we know that was a relief to be free of those stitches which begin to be uncomfortable when they are ready to come out. Squints is ready to leave our shelter with an approved adoption application and is anxious to find his special someone who give him the dream home he deserved.
