My Story

Tiana Meet Tiana, the little overachiever of the bunch. Tiana arrived at Jefferson SPCA with six of her siblings and cousins after two accidental litters found themselves needing a fresh start. Thankfully, they're all safe, healthy, and ready to find families of their own. If there were such a thing as kitten school, Tiana would absolutely be the student earning straight A's. She's sweet, gentle, affectionate, and always seems to make the right decision... unless the decision involves chasing a toy, because then all bets are off. Like the rest of her family, Tiana believes playtime is serious business. Wand toys, toy mice, wrestling with her siblings—she's all in. When she's finished burning off that kitten energy, she's more than happy to curl up for cuddles and remind you what a sweetheart she is. If you're looking for a playful kitten with a gentle heart, Tiana is ready to graduate into your family. ***Why Are Some of Our Kittens in a Separate Area?*** Welcome to kitten season... and unfortunately, ringworm season, too! This year has been especially challenging. We rescued a litter of kittens from behind Target, and they tested positive for not one, but **two different types of ringworm**. From there, despite our best efforts, it spread to some of our other kittens. Because ringworm is contagious through direct contact and spores in the environment, we've temporarily closed off part of our kitten area to help stop the spread. We ask everyone to sanitize their hands between visiting kittens, but we know excited little animal lovers sometimes forget! The good news? **Ringworm is very treatable.** Our kittens have already been started on oral medication along with topical treatment, and as of July 1, they've completed about two weeks of therapy. They have one more week of medication before their veterinary rechecks. If a kitten isn't completely cleared, the treatment protocol is simply one week off medication followed by another week on, until they're finished. Every kitten is still receiving their age-appropriate veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, and everything needed to prepare for adoption. In fact, many veterinarians will tell you that kittens often recover from ringworm **faster in a home environment** than in a shelter. Less stress, more love, and fewer environmental spores can make a big difference. If you adopt a kitten that is still finishing treatment, we'll send you home with the medication and instructions. The topical treatment is simple—often just applying a small amount of antifungal cream to the affected area once a day. We know the word "ringworm" sounds scary, but despite its name, **it isn't caused by a worm at all.** It's a common fungal skin infection that people and pets encounter more often than you might think. (Just ask the parents of wrestlers—ringworm is practically a seasonal sport!) Our biggest wish is for these babies to spend their kittenhood in loving homes instead of growing up in a shelter while they finish treatment. They deserve couches, toys, sunny windows, and families who will love them through one last week or two of medication. If you've been thinking about adopting a kitten, don't let ringworm scare you away. You won't just be gaining a wonderful companion—you'll also be helping a kitten heal in the best place possible: home. If you'd like to meet me, stop by Jefferson Feed (corner of Jefferson Hwy. and Central Ave.). We kindly ask that visits be made earlier in the day, as the last hour before closing is reserved for medications and end-of-day care. Adoption Fee is $200/each or $350/pair. We like our kittens to have friends so we want a pair adoption if you have no other pets unless we know a specific kitten prefers to be alone. All kittens are Spayed/Neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines, FeLV/FIV tested and microchipped.
