My Story

Meet Alvin! 6 years old 51 lbs Neutered Male Lab/Hound Mix Alvin is the perfect blend of happy-go-lucky and loyal companion. At 6 years old, he still has plenty of energy for adventures but has all the wonderful qualities that come with a mature dog. If you're looking for a best friend to join you on walks, hikes, or trips to the dog park, Alvin is ready to sign up! This handsome guy is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered, house trained, crate trained, and knows his basic commands. He's a social butterfly who loves being around people and has even done great in playgroups during boarding at Camp Bow Wow. He also enjoys regular trips to the dog park, where he's happiest making new canine friends. Alvin does best with submissive dogs and appreciates slow, respectful introductions before becoming pals. Once he's comfortable, he's ready to play. About Alvin: 6 years old 51-pound Lab/Hound mix Neutered, heartworm negative & up to date on vaccines House and crate trained Knows basic commands Friendly, social, and active Dog friendly with slow introductions Best with submissive dogs Older, respectful children only No cats or small critters Like many hounds, Alvin has a strong instinct to chase squirrels, cats, and other small animals. He's more interested in tracking and "treeing" them than causing harm, but because of this instinct, he'll need a home without cats or other small pets. Alvin also gets so excited to meet visitors that he sometimes forgets his manners and greets them with enthusiastic jumps. With continued consistency and positive reinforcement, this happy habit can continue to improve. Alvin is looking for an active family with a securely fenced yard, plenty of adventures, and humans who appreciate a fun-loving dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart. If you're searching for a loyal hiking buddy, a dog park enthusiast, and a companion who will happily be by your side through every adventure, Alvin is ready to meet you. PLEASE READ BELOW: If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. *An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application* All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. ***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
