My Story

Meet Benson! Some dogs spend their lives being cherished members of a family. Sadly, Benson's story appears to have been much different. This sweet senior Bichon Frise/Poodle mix was originally found wandering alone in Rouge Park, an area unfortunately known for abandoned animals. Based on his condition, we can only assume that Benson was left behind and forced to fend for himself. Struggling to survive, he was found covered in severely matted and overgrown fur. His coat was tangled with burrs and so painfully matted that every movement appeared uncomfortable. The matting was beyond repair, and Benson had to be completely shaved down to provide him relief. While he may look a little different right now, his fur will grow back beautifully with time and regular grooming. Despite everything he has endured, Benson has remained remarkably kind, gentle, and friendly. He greets new people with a sweet disposition and seems grateful for every bit of love and attention he receives. As a mature gentleman, Benson does show a few of the common signs of aging. His eyes are a bit cloudy and don't see quite as well as they once did, and his hearing may not be as sharp as it was in his younger years. He was also found with a mouth full of infection due to severely neglected dental care. While Benson may have lacked proper care in the past, he has never lost his loving spirit. Benson does well with other dogs and has no issues with cats. He would be happiest in a quieter home with older, dog-savvy children or an adult-only household where he can enjoy a more relaxed pace of life. He has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners, is crate trained, and enjoys the comforts of indoor living. While he isn't particularly confident on a leash, Benson enjoys taking his time to explore and sniff his surroundings. Because of this, he would likely do best with a physically fenced yard where he can safely wander at his own pace. He is not a candidate for an invisible fence or tether. Benson may be entering his golden years, but he still has plenty of life, love, and companionship left to offer. What he needs now is someone willing to see beyond the neglect of his past and recognize the wonderful dog standing in front of them. He is looking for a family who will cherish him, spoil him, and make sure he never has to wonder where his next meal, warm bed, or kind touch will come from again. If you're searching for a loyal companion with a gentle soul and a heart full of love, Benson is waiting to spend his golden years by your side. Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal's temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different. While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program. FUREVER TAILS IS A NON-PROFIT, NO-KILL, FOSTER HOME BASED ANIMAL RESCUE BASED OUT OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI. OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE. ADOPTION FEES ARE NECESSARY TO HELP US COVER VETTING COSTS FOR OUR RESCUED ANIMALS.
