My Story
** A generous Donor will donate $500 towards Blue Eyes Medical expenses! **
Blue Eyes ACCT-A-251384 came to ACCT Philly on May 28th as a health surrender. She was found a few weeks ago with a "red ball" coming out of her behind and they could not provide the medical care she needed. Upon arrival to the shelter, she was diagnosed with a vaginal prolapse.
In her brief time at the shelter, Blue Eyes has already shown what a sweet girl she is. She greets people at the front of her kennel with soft eyes and a wagging tail, walks out easily on leash, and happily soaks up attention - nudging for more pets when you stop. She's food motivated, takes treats gently, and moves through the world with a loose, relaxed body. She even had a friendly meeting with another dog, offering play bows and an eager, social energy. Due to her medical needs, she is seeking placement with a rescue partner.

Medical:
6/4 Tech Exam: Blue Eyes was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested positive for pneumovirus.
6/4 Surgery Note: Vaginal prolapse was reduced as best as able and vulvar purse string suture placed with absorbable suture.
5/29 Vet Exam: BAR, heart and lungs auscult normally. Large vaginal prolapse prolapse present, and patient is in heat. Prolapsed tissue is overall healthy, with no ulcerations or necrosis on surface. Spayed today. Prolapse reduction was attempted, but despite copious amounts of sugar to reduce edema and time, edematous tissue was still too large to reduce.
Now that she has been spayed and hormone source has been removed, tissue should begin to involute and shrink down. To keep prolapsed tissue lubricated in the meantime, and reassess for reduction and purse string placement in 4 days if still in care.
5/28 Triage Exam: Blue Eyes weighed 52.1 lbs with an ideal body condition score. Heart rate, respiratory rate, and all vitals were within normal limits. Eyes were clear, ears were waxy, nose was clean, and teeth were slightly stained. She was diagnosed with a vaginal prolapse. The prolapsed tissue was cleaned with saline and lubricated, and she has been started on antibiotics.
Behavior:
On 5/31 volunteer noted: I took Blue Eyes out for the photo shoot and she was fantastic! She is a quiet sweetheart who loves cuddling her head into my lap. She gets excited about meeting other dogs and does not jump when she sees them. She just wags her tail and gets all wiggly. She met another dog at the fence and you can see in the video how great she is!
I think she knows sit, too.
5/28 per volunteer: Blue Eyes was easy in and out of her kennel. She walks really well on leash with a loose leash. She is such a lovely girl! She has the calmest demeanor and really just enjoyed getting lots of pets and enjoying the nice weather together!
On 5/28 staff noted:
Kennel Presentation: At the front of her kennel, soft eyes, ears back, mid tail wags, loose body. Took a treat very gently through the bars.
Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out. Walked mid tail wags, ears back, loose body. Pulled mildly on leash.
Sociability: Allowed all handling, soft eyes, tail low, ears back. Would nudge my hand when I stopped petting her. Took treats gently outside and is food motivated.
Play: N/A
Dog Interaction: Met Daisy, ears back, play bows, loose body, trying to get Daisy to play.
Return to Kennel: Walked back with the same body language as walking out. Stopped outside her kennel, ears back, low tail. Tossed in a treat and she hopped right in. Leash was removed easily by hand.
Color Level: Exp Gold.
