I've had quite a journey getting to where I am today. I came from a home with 32 other dogs where we had very little interaction with people beyond being fed, watered, and let outside for short periods of time. With so many dogs living in such a small space, life was overwhelming, and we didn't get the clean, comfortable environment every dog deserves. Because of my past, I can be a little timid when meeting new people or experiencing new situations. Im still learning that people can be kind, patient, and trustworthy. The good news is that I've been given a fresh start here at the shelter, and every day I grow a little more confident. I recently spent some time in a home, and my family said I was a wonderful house guest. I was house-trained, quiet, calm, and well-mannered indoors. Unfortunately, they went through a lot of changes while I was with them, including moving to a new home. I also lost my canine sibling, and all of those changes at once were difficult for me to understand. Change can be scary when you've spent most of your life relying on familiar faces and routines. Because I grew up around so many other dogs, I would likely do best with another confident dog in the home to help me feel secure and continue building my confidence. Having a canine friend by my side helps me relax and reminds me that the world isn't such a scary place. Im also learning how to walk on a leash. Its still a new experience for me, but Im trying my best and making progress every day. With patience, understanding, a calm home, and maybe a dog friend to show me the ropes, I know Ill continue to blossom into a happy, loyal companion. Once I trust you, you'll get to see the sweet dog I've always had the potential to be.
