Duke

Duke is an affectionate homebody who enjoys nothing more than to be with his family. He came to our shelter because the senior dog that was there before him was not a fan of him, no matter what her owners did to convince her otherwise. Duke lived with two kids - both 10 and younger - and was very attached to one of them; they would sleep in the same room, play together, and Duke listened to the kid more than he would listen to his owner. Duke is still quite young, and has a lot of playful energy to spare. Regular walks and playtime will do him well to burn off that energy, especially if it's quality time spent with his family! He doesn't care much to be outside and away from home, preferring to stick with who and what he knows. We're still learning how he does with other dogs during our new Playgroup program, where shelter dogs get to freely roam and play in our courtyard, while our kennel staff monitors them and notes down how they do! If you are interested in Duke, we strongly recommend doing a Meet-and-Greet at our shelter, and bring all your family and pets to be introduced to him. We also have a Paw Pass program that would allow him to go home and see how he does with your family overnight! Duke is just a big guy with a soft heart that needs the right amount of patience, time, and love to truly make him be the best dog he can be.
