My Story

We have lots of newbies to start introducing this week! But first some breaking news on our little Elf We initially thought he and his brother Elmer Fuzz were best adopted as a pair, but after a failed placement and some bad boy behaviors that seem to feed off each other, they have decided to go their separate ways. So they are both now available individually. Elf is a ridiculously cute sweet little 7.5 lbs creature who looks like a chihuahua got electrocuted and ended up with the worlds best Mohawk. Prepare for him to be laughed at and asked WTF he is everywhere he goes, as people debate if hes ugly, freaky, adorable, or all of the above. He and his brother were dumped in a crate together in a scary area but hes a super social smart cuddly playful fun little guy who bonds quickly. He can get fresh with other dogs at times, and he and his brother tended to gang up and turn into bullies together, but he does get along with most other small dogs once introduced. He has made a big dog fall over in fear with just a look, but that dog was kind of a super chicken so we wont take his threats too too seriously . The power did go to his wiry little head though. Hes crate trained but will need some confinement and work on housebreaking likely and a structured routine and decompression period. Elf is about 4 years old, neutered, updated on shots, and some kind of possum/hyena/porcupine/chi/yorkie mix (a dna test would be very interesting ) Email [email protected] to meet Elf in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at [email protected]. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
