The MexiMutt Project is an initiative of Born Again Pit Bull Rescue. Millions of dogs live on the streets in Mexico, and our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, medical care, and adoption into loving homes. - Since 2019, we have matched over 500 dogs with loving homes & spayed/neutered over 3,500 dogs in Mexico. - All of our dogs are currently in foster care in Guadalajara, Mexico. They are listed in Oregon for adoption purposes because our rescue is based there. - Once an adoption is approved, the dog will fly to Portland, Oregon (PDX). Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived outdoors, they'll need some time to adjust. Most adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training. He was just sitting there in the middle of the lane. Up close, she could see everything: a coat thick with fleas, one eye long gone, the other in rough shape, and a ring of scarred skin around his neck - the kind left behind by a collar worn too tight for too long, or a rope he'd been tied to long enough to mark him. He was exhausted. On the ride home, he just sat quietly in the passenger seat, like he already understood that the worst was over. That stillness, it turns out, is just who George is. He came through something that would break a lot of spirits and emerged on the other side with nothing but warmth to offer. "He gets happy the moment he sees you," says his foster, Romina, "because he knows he's going to get your attention - and that's all he really wants." His days now are simple and good: naps in sunny spots, slow trots around the yard, and following his people from room to room just to stay close. He loves company with his whole calm, devoted heart. George is ideal for someone who wants a companion dog - a loving, undemanding presence that fits into daily life without a lot of fuss. He's good with other dogs, cats, and kids, nearly fully house-trained, and has settled into routine with ease. His visible scars tell a hard story. But George himself is not a hard dog. Here's what to expect: Because our dogs cannot return to Mexico if there isn't a good fit, we're extra thorough in matching each dog with the right family ensuring lifelong success for both dog and adopter. 1. We arrange the flight to Oregon (included in fee) and send periodic photo/video updates 4. Airport pickup at PDX, pay adoption fee, receive medical records, welcome your new family member home! Timeline: 2-4 weeks for CDC/USDA paperwork and flight arrangement once approved. $650 Adoption Fee includes all of the following: - Flight to Oregon, USDA import permit, Screwworm Health Certificate - Spay/neuter, core vaccines (DHLPPi, Rabies, Bordetella). Flea/tick/heartworm treatment & deworming. - Blood work & health tests (CBC, blood parasite tests, parvo/giardia/coronavirus test). - Grooming. Microchip. Collar, leash & ID tag.
