My Story

Meet Hattie! *Please read carefully and only apply if you match the requirements for her forever home and you are OK with her mild medical condition.* Hattie is an approximately 112-year-old Shih Tzu who weighs just under 11 pounds. Shes discovering just how wonderful life as a beloved pet can be, and shes embracing every minute of it. This little girl has perfected her "Billy goat" skills and can effortlessly hop from one piece of furniture to another. Her favorite spot? Perched on the back of a chair where she can keep an eye on everything going on around her. When she's not showing off her impressive agility, Hattie is happiest soaking up belly rubs and spending time with her people. Hattie gets along well with other small dogs (she is scared of larger dogs, so none in her future home please!) and would most likely do well with cats. Because of her small size, she would do best in a home with respectful children who understand how to be gentle with little dogs. Hattie is making great progress with her house and kennel training and continues to improve as she settles into her foster home. She is up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped, and will be spayed before adoption. Like all Shih Tzus, she will need regular grooming to keep her looking and feeling her best. Hattie was recently diagnosed with doggie dry eye, a condition that requires lifelong eye medication to keep her eyes healthy and comfortable. Her current medication costs approximately $70 per month. She takes her eye drops like a champ, and with consistent treatment, she can continue to live a happy, comfortable life. One thing you'll notice is a long scar on her back. While we'll never know exactly how she got it, it's a reminder that Hattie has a story we'll never fully know. What we do know is that her future deserves to be filled with love, comfort, and a family who will cherish her—scars, eye drops, Billy goat antics, and all. If you think Hattie might be the perfect addition to your family, we'd love for you to meet her. Apply to adopt her at Adopt A Pal Animal Rescue. Www.adoptapal.org/adopt Adoption fee is $500 and includes spay, microchip, vaccinations, and one month of pet insurance.
