My Story

FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60619 ESTIMATED DOB: 12/2022 WEIGHT: 27lbs KIDS: Yes, Older DOGS: Yes CATS: Yes HISTORY: Juniper came to us from Louisiana where she was found as a stray. ABOUT: Juniper is absolutely the sweetest creature on the planet. She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but once she gets to know you she is willing to follow you around and help you do anything. Including things that dont need help. If you know beagles and love both their antics and devotion - Juniper will be the perfect dog for you. Their love, companionship, and desire to sniff your eyeballs. Their willingness to follow you anywhere and everywhere. But also their ability to get into a little trouble if they are left alone when their services are not needed. Juniper rides well in the car. She does bark and whine when she is left alone - so she might upset the neighbors in an apartment. Her foster said she isnt horrible on leash, but isnt the best either. Juniper does great with other dogs and would likely do best with another dog. She would likely thrive with a dog who likes to interact and be her buddy - but also is confident and can give her a lead to follow. If we had to make a guess Juniper likely came from a hunting beagle kennel, so she is used to having canine companions. Juniper is being fostered with a cat whom she does not bother. Like most dogs she enjoys cat food, so it would need to be kept out of her reach. Juniper is happy to entertain herself while you are busy - but it might involve chewing the belt on your robe or putting all your shoes in her bed. If youve had a beagle before - you know this is pretty par for the course. She is not a bounce-off-the-wall every minute of the day type of hyper, but she is young and will need some physical and mental stimulation to keep your robes and shoes safe. Juniper is not being fostered with children. She is as sweet as pie and would likely love children, but because she can get a little excited she might do best with older children that she cant accidentally knock over. Junipers housetraining has gone back and forth. At times she does really well, but has recently been having some accidents in her crate. A good routine and schedule - along with another dog and a little patience from her adopter might help her get this figured out. Juniper has a low grade heart murmur and a slow heart rate that doesnt really mean much except it can change the medications she needs while sedated. She should also be on a cardiology approved diet (Hills, Purina, etc.). No grain free or boutique foods, please. They might be healthy foods for many dogs, but theyre not for her. Juniper was heartworm positive upon arrival, and has gone through treatment. More information and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.
