Kandy is a fitting name because this girl is crazy sweet! She is a happy dog filled with lively energy, unrestrained enthusiasm, and joy. Kandy is very friendly and loving with people. She was happy to greet everyone and make quick connections. She loves pets and will lean into you to receive them. Another thing she loves butt scratches! You will get tired of giving before she will get tired of receiving.
Since she's been in foster, Kandy has been working on her good-girl manners. Luckily, she is very treat motivated and a quick study! She has mastered sit, down, stay and continues to add to her repertoire. Kandy is pretty good on leash but she loves to pull a bit to make sure she has fully sniffed everything in the area. She is crate trained and sleeps quietly in her crate at night and rides nicely in a crate in the car. Kandy enjoys squeaky toys, chew bones, and ice cubes and will happily play alone or with you. She also loves to fetch. Though she may not return the ball to you!
She's a bit of a chaser of squirrels, birds, and insects. She briefly lived with an indoor cat and did fine but outdoors, if the cat runs, she will chase. It's more playful than prey. Around dogs, she has some insecurity and fear. She could likely live with another dog provided there was structure and boundaries. She would struggle with a dog who was super high energy and is going to be in her space. If you have a dog or plan for her to be around other dogs, we want to make sure they start off on the right foot. Therefore, we want to hold her meet and greet with our trainer in the Houston area. If you do not have another dog, her meet and greet can be held in the San Antonio area.
Kandy is active, but she also has an off switch. She would do well in a home with a yard where she can get daily exercise playing and fetching. Since she can jump up and be under foot, she needs a home without small children, elderly folks, or people with stability issues.
Kandy is about 3 years old, weights around 45 pounds, and has a long, natural tail. She's spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Unfortunately, she came to TCDR heartworm positive. Kandy is undergoing treatment and doing great. She will be ready for her forever home around the end of July.
