My Story

Kibberly ACCT-A-251283 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Kibberly must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by SUNDAY, JUNE 21ST at 10AM. Should Kibberly's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. When Kibberly arrived at ACCT Philly as a stray on May 27th, her finder described her as friendly, quiet, and playful, noting some concern about one of her legs. Since then, she has only continued to win people over, and the more time staff and volunteers spend with her, the more her sweet personality shines through. This lovable girl is incredibly social and adores being around people. With her wiggly body and enthusiastic spirit, Kibberly has a way of making everyone she meets smile. She tends to have a medium energy level-equally happy heading out for a walk, soaking up belly rubs, playing with her favorite stuffed toys, or curling up close to the people she loves. She appears to be housetrained, walks nicely on leash, knows "sit," and is easy to handle. She occasionally gets jumpy or overexcited, especially when treats are involved, but these are minor behaviors that should improve with consistency and positive reinforcement. Kibberly also greets other dogs with wagging tails and interest and has had several good dog meets during her stay. Kibberly is suspected to have a partial cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear in her left hind leg, a common orthopedic condition similar to an ACL injury in people. Her adopter should be prepared to pursue a surgical consultation to discuss treatment options that can help keep her comfortable and active. Kibberly is more than ready for a home of her own. Beneath her wiggly, playful exterior is a sweet, affectionate dog who simply wants to be loved. She deserves the chance to trade her kennel for a couch and the uncertainty of shelter life for the comfort and stability of a family. Due to her length of stay, Kibberly is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter. Per volunteer 5/28: Kennel presentation: When I approached she was sitting down and looked up at me with her ears forward and long-swooping tail wags. When I opened the door, she retreated slightly but circled back forward and I was able to leash her. Leash Skills: She walks fine on leash with no pulling. Sociability: She is very social and followed me around. She is very wiggly and runs around like a bowling ball. She could be jumpy at times and grabby for treats. She allowed me to pet her all over and stayed right by me while doing so. Play & Toys: I tossed a ball and she showed no interest. Dog interaction: We walked by some dogs outside and she looked in their direction but continued walking. Returning to kennel: Went right back in. Color level: Gold Per finder 5/27: Friendly with strangers and children. She walked nicely with us without a leash. Her leg seems off. Friendly, quiet, and playful. MEDICAL NOTES: Cranial cruciate ligament ruptures (equivalent to an ACL tear in people) are a very common orthopedic problem, especially in large breed dogs. Ideal management involves surgical correction of the knee as this has been shown to reduce the likelihood of arthritis and promote quicker healing. We recommend scheduling a consultation with a surgeon to discuss possible fixation. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately.
