My Story

Koda ACCT-A-250891 is a 1-year-old male who came in as an owner surrender due to a new baby/pregnancy on 6/3. Owner noted that he "needs work with housebreaking; still learning and has frequent accidents. He is fully crate-trained and has a medium energy level. He is super friendly & loves strangers, children and other dogs! He has no reaction to cats. He pulls too hard on leash and likes "marking" things with urine. Koda is a very friendly dog and will make a good companion for someone." Koda has been extremely nervous & uncomfortable in shelter, and while he has tolerated handling, he has mostly been focused on exit searching. He has been in his home for at least a year and surely the shelter environment is a massive adjustment. However, his tolerance shows that he is at least willing to try & make that change, and we have tried to make this change as comfortable as possible for him! Would you happen to have the time & space for Koda to decompress? Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Spun in a circle when I opened the door, after one circle stopped and was easily leashed. Came out right away, stopped at the doorway to enter the kennels, ears pinned back, wide eyes tail low and pancaked. Went around to the eval room and tried going through those doors. Stopped and pancaked at the doorway, not eating treats that I offered, did not move with baby talk and crouching down. Needed to use leash pressure to get through the door way. Once through he door way laid down and trembled, wide eyes, ears pinned back. With baby talk and couching down got up and moving. Pulled strong on leash outside, towards the road, tail low, ears back. Sociability: Exit searching in the yard, panting, tail low, wide eyes. Would pull hard towards the fence closest to he parking lot. Tolerated all handling, would return to exit searching. Eating on and off outside. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Zillo, sniffed then returned to exit searching. Return to Kennel: Pulled hard going back in, tail low, ears back. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily by hand." Per staff on 6/7: "Could not do meet, too fearful when leaving kennel" ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
