My Story

**Location - CT, available w/transport to NY, NJ, CT, PA, MA PLEASE DON'T LET LILY LOSE EVERYTHING AGAIN Many of you remember Lily. Back in February, thousands of you followed her story, shared her posts, and celebrated when we announced she had finally found a home. We truly believed her journey was over. For those who don't know Lily's story, Lily was adopted from our rescue five years ago and adored her dad. He was her person, her comfort, and her entire world. Then he passed away. The loss was devastating for Lily. Eventually, through no fault of her own, she returned to rescue after his wife, struggling with unimaginable grief of her own, could no longer care for her. Many of you may remember Michelle, one of our adopters and volunteers, who stepped up when Lily had nowhere else to go. Because Michelle had a dog at home and Lily needed to be the only pet, she spent 12 days living in hotel rooms with Lily, making sure she was safe, loved, and never alone while we searched for her future. During those 12 days, we watched Lily begin to heal. She bonded quickly and deeply with Michelle and later with Michelle's friend, Adam. It was another reminder of what we had always known about Lilyshe just needs patience, understanding, and the chance to move at her own pace. When Lily is given patience, understanding, and the opportunity to move at her own pace, she learns to trust. When we found what we believed was her forever home, we thought her story had finally come full circle. Unfortunately, Lily is once again searching for a home. While we refuse to rush Lily into the wrong situation, the reality is that she does need a new home, and time is not on her side. The hardest part is that Lily loves deeply. Once she trusts you, she gives you her whole heart. She follows her person everywhere, sleeps pressed against them, always wants to be close, and if she can be touching you, she will. When Lily feels safe and happy, she has the sweetest smile that melts your heart. We also want to be completely transparent about her needs. Lily is deaf. She must be the only pet. She forms incredibly deep bonds with her people and struggles with separation anxiety. After everything she has been through, she becomes anxious when separated from her person and will bark when she feels worried, stressed, or uncertain. What she does not do is destroy the home. Lily is not destructive. The good news is that we consulted with Jeff, an incredible trainer and rescuer whom we have worked with many times before and trust completely. After discussing Lily and her history, his assessment was simple: "These are fixable issues." Jeff believes Lily's anxiety can be successfully managed with commitment, consistency, structure, support, and the right tools. At 8 years old, the goal isn't perfection. The goal is helping Lily feel safe, secure, and understood. Even better, Jeff has generously offered to work directly with Lily's future adopter, providing guidance, support, and tools to help them successfully manage her anxiety and continue building her confidence. Road to Home Rescue will cover the cost of that support because we want both Lily and her future family set up for success. As part of our Forever Foster Program, Road to Home Rescue will also cover all approved medical expenses beyond routine wellness care for the rest of Lily's life. A quieter home would likely be ideal. Perhaps a retiree, someone who works from home, or simply someone willing to make a commitment to a loyal companion and help Lily feel safe. We also want to make something very clear: this post is not about placing blame on anyone. The focus needs to remain on Lily. Her current family has repeatedly told us that Lily is the best dog they have ever had. Lily bonded quickly, deeply, and exactly as we knew she would. That statement speaks volumes about who Lily is at her core. She is a wonderful dog. The challenge isn't loving Lilyeveryone who gets to know her falls in love with her. The challenge is finding the person willing to make a lifelong commitment to her. As difficult as this situation is, we will not compromise Lily's future simply to move her quickly. Rescue often means making hard decisions under pressure, but we have learned that rushing a placement rarely serves the dog. Lily deserves more than another temporary stop. She deserves the right home. We know this transition will not be easy for Lily. Losing another home is heartbreaking. But if there is one thing Lily has shown us time and time again, it is her resilience. Lily has spent too much of her life losing the people she loves. What Lily needs now is not another chance. She needs a commitment. This has to be Lily's final stop. At 8 years old, this sweet senior girl deserves peace, stability, and a home where she will never have to wonder again if she belongs. A home where she can finally stop losing the people she loves. She has learned to trust again, and now she needs someone who won't disappear. Back in February, Lily's story reached thousands of people because so many of you shared her posts and refused to let her be forgotten. That support helped Lily find a home. Today, we are asking for that same support again because we know Lily's person is out there somewhere. Please share her story far and wide so we can help her find her final stop. 8 years old 79 pounds Deaf Only pet home Extremely affectionate Loves to cuddle and be close to her person Not destructive House broken Separation anxiety that can be managed with commitment and support Forever Foster Program Trainer support included through the rescue Please complete an application: www.rthrs.com Please share.
