My Story
If life were a competition, Midnight would be the guy sitting in a lawn chair on the sidelines, sipping sweet tea, watching everyone else run around, and wondering why they're making things so complicated. At his core, Midnight is the definition of chill. He's got the kind of easygoing personality that makes you instantly relax just being around him. Traffic jam? Midnight isn't worried. Bad day at work? Midnight thinks we should probably just take a nap about it. Existential crisis at 2 a.m.? Midnight recommends snacks and a comfy couch. While some dogs are constantly searching for their next adventure, Midnight has mastered the art of simply enjoying life.

Midnight is a 4-month-old, 20lb Border Collie mix who has already learned something no puppy should ever have to learn: sometimes people let you down. This handsome boy came to us after being abandoned, left behind for reasons we will never know or understand. What we do know is that Midnight hasn't let it dim his light. The people who abandoned him may have missed out on something special. His future family won't.
One thing you should know about Midnight is that while he may be only 20 pounds, he has absolutely no idea he's supposed to be small. Currently, he lives with six large dogs and has decided that size is merely a suggestion. A very optional suggestion. He especially loves wrestling with a 2-year-old Lab who outweighs him by approximately several Midnights. Logic would suggest this should be intimidating. Midnight disagrees. In his mind, they're clearly the same size and perfectly matched opponents. Beyond his impressive ability to ignore basic physics, Midnight is also what experts refer to as a Velcro Dog. His long-term goal is to remain within a five-foot radius of his favorite humans at all times. As for people? Midnight has apparently decided that strangers are just friends who haven't had the opportunity to pet him yet. On walks, he's happy to meet new people and happily accepts attention from admirers. His public relations department is thriving. He's also been around children ranging from toddlers to teenagers and has done wonderfully. Tiny humans, medium humans, almost-adult humansMidnight's fan club has members of all ages. We don't know how he feels about cats since his foster home doesn't have any, but if they're willing to participate in his ongoing mission to make friends and collect attention, negotiations may be possible.
If you're looking for a puppy whose life goal is to climb Mount Everest, kayak across three states, and train for an ultramarathon before breakfast... Midnight would like to wish you the best of luck in your search. Because that sounds exhausting. Midnight operates at what we like to call a "comfortable cruising speed." With an energy level right in the middle at about a 5 out of 10, he's happy to play, explore, go for walks, and enjoy lifebut he's equally happy to spend the afternoon supervising your activities from the couch. When it comes to walks, Midnight is an absolute dream. He walks so politely on leash that he can comfortably stroll alongside his foster's 12.5-year-old arthritic Great Pyrenees without pulling or dragging anyone down the street. Then, when it's time to pick up the pace, he'll happily hustle along with the energetic 2-year-old Lab. As for adventures? Midnight respectfully votes for staying home. He's very much a homebody at heart. Sure, he'll accompany you on outings, but if given the choice between scaling mountains or hanging out with his people in air conditioning, he's choosing the second option every single time. Car rides are another area where Midnight has very specific job responsibilities. He does require a little boost getting into the vehicle, but once inside, he immediately assumes the position of Official Co-Pilot. His preferred seating arrangement involves sticking his head between the front seats so he can closely monitor road conditions, navigation decisions, and whether you're driving to somewhere exciting or merely wasting gas. He enjoys toys, although he's not particularly interested in making a career out of them. Fetch remains an unsolved mystery. We don't know if he loves it, hates it, or simply hasn't decided whether repeatedly retrieving an object that you intentionally threw away is a productive use of his time.
One of the nicest things about Midnight is that he's not particularly high-maintenance. Some dogs come with a long list of requirements. Acreage. Eight-foot fences. Daily enrichment puzzles designed by NASA engineers. A strict routine involving yoga, meditation, and interpretive dance. Midnight's requirements are considerably simpler. Do you have people? Do those people enjoy having a dog nearby? If so, perfect. Midnight is the rare puppy who could happily adapt to just about any living situation. A securely fenced yard? Great. Regular leash walks with no fence? Also great. A house? Wonderful. An apartment? He'd likely be just fine there too. He's also already proving himself to be quite the little student. He knows commands like "stay," "come here," "in your box," "let's go," and "stop." He learns quickly and genuinely wants to please. Potty trained? Check. Crate trained? Also check.
Now for the boring human paperwork portion of our program.
