My Story
Hi everyone- Meet Milo!
Milo is a handsome 5 1/2-year-old blue merle Australian Shepherd with a cute nub tail, a playful personality, and a heart full of love. Weighing 43 pounds, Milo is currently in Richmond, VA, and is looking for a new home through no fault of his own.
Milo is deeply loved by his family, who have made the difficult decision to ask ARMA for help because their work requires frequent travel. They want Milo to have the time, attention, exercise, and companionship he deserves.
Milo is affectionate, intelligent, and full of personality. He may be a little vocal or unsure when meeting new people—especially men—and can briefly slip into his herding instincts. However, with a little patience, a few treats, and the opportunity to sniff and settle in, he quickly relaxes and often rewards new friends with the sweetest belly-up roll for rubs.
This handsome boy LOVES to play fetch! If there were a mascot for the game, it would be Milo. Tennis balls, rubber spiky balls, tug toys, and his large herding ball are some of his favorite things. He is active, playful, and would thrive in a home where he can enjoy regular walks, daily games of fetch, enrichment activities, and plenty of quality time with his people.
Milo has done well with other dogs and has successfully boarded with canine companions. He previously enjoyed playful wrestling sessions with a dog buddy and would likely enjoy having a friendly canine companion in his new home. He has no history with cats.
Milo is housebroken, trustworthy with free roam of the house, rides well in the car, and knows several commands, including sit, down, come, quiet, clean up, and is learning wait. While he is not crate trained, he has excellent house manners. On leash, Milo can become excited and may zigzag or pull, but he responds well to positive reinforcement and would benefit from continued work using a front-clip harness.
Milo is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. He occasionally experiences mild ear irritation that resolves quickly with ear drops. He is not currently on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, which can easily be restarted by his new family.
Milo would do best with someone who enjoys spending time outdoors, can provide regular exercise and daily fetch sessions, and is committed to helping him continue building confidence when meeting new people. He is a smart, loving, goofy Australian Shepherd who has so much affection to give. With a little patience, structure, and lots of playtime, Milo will make an incredibly loyal and devoted companion.
