My Story

Meet Morton von LICKtenstein, but his friends call him Morty! Morty is a distinguished gentleman of approximately 10 years old who has fully embraced the idea that life is meant to be enjoyed. This handsome senior found himself in an overcrowded city shelter through no fault of his own when his former owner surrendered him without so much as sharing his name or history. Their loss is about to be someone else's incredible gain. While Morty may have a little gray on his face, don't let that fool you. This guy still has plenty of pep in his step and is the perfect blend of adventure buddy and couch companion. He's happy to join you for leisurely walks, play a game of fetch, or spend time exploring the yard. Once he's had his outdoor time, he's more than content to curl up on a cozy bed or snuggle beside you on the couch for movie night. If Morty has one true love in life, it's being outside. Whether he's strolling through the neighborhood, soaking up the sunshine, or performing his signature move known as "The Morty Shuffle" (a joyful routine involving rolling around upside down in the grass), he is happiest with fresh air and a little room to enjoy himself. Morty is house trained, walks beautifully on leash, and is non-reactive to people, dogs, and everyday sights during walks. He knows "sit" and "shake" and is currently working on adding another paw to his repertoire. He's a smart boy who enjoys learning, especially when treats and praise are involved. Like many dogs who have experienced big changes later in life, Morty does have some anxiety. Since starting medication and settling into foster care, he has made tremendous progress and continues to become more comfortable every day. He also has some resource guarding tendencies around other dogs, though never with people. Because of this, he would do best as an only dog or with calm, respectful canine companions who understand boundaries. Morty is not a fan of crates and has made his feelings on the subject abundantly clear. The good news? He doesn't need one. He is completely house trained, accident-free, and does perfectly well relaxing in a room when left alone. Morty's ideal home would be one where he can enjoy plenty of outdoor time, whether that's in a fenced yard or on a tie-out with supervision. He could live with dog-savvy children of any age and would thrive with a family looking for a loyal companion who still enjoys life's simple pleasures. A cat-free home would be preferred, though a very dog-savvy cat may be possible. Morty spent far too long being overlooked, but he hasn't let that dim his spirit. He is affectionate, funny, resilient, and ready to spend his golden years exactly as he deserves: loved, safe, and surrounded by people who appreciate what an incredible dog he is. If you're looking for a best friend who comes with excellent leash manners, a heart of gold, and a signature grass-rolling dance move, Morty is waiting to meet you.
