My Story
Meet Raya!
Raya's story begins in a way we'll never forget.
There's one video we chose not to share—Raya standing over her sibling who had been struck and killed in the median of a busy highway. Cars flew by, but she refused to leave. She stayed right there, loyal and heartbroken, until one of our volunteers was able to bring her to safety.
That was the day Raya's new life began.
Today she's a happy, resilient young girl who's left so much of her past behind. Raya is playful, goofy, athletic, and absolutely hilarious. When she gets the zoomies, she doesn't just run—she hops like a little deer, bouncing across the yard in a way that's guaranteed to make you laugh.
She loves adventures. Walks? Yes. Car rides? Absolutely. Hiking? Exploring? Count her in. The second someone heads toward the front door, she's convinced she's included. In fact, she'd probably walk for miles before she'd willingly turn around and head home. A fenced in yard is a must for this girl because that's where she loves having the majority of her adventures.
But once the adventure is over, Raya has one more job... being as close to you as physically possible. She wants to be in your lap, curled up beside you on the couch, and slowly taking over your bed one inch at a time. She's looking for a family that truly wants their dog to be part of everyday life, and we're looking for adopters who are excited to give her exactly that.
Raya does need slow, positive introductions with new people and other dogs. Once she realizes you're a friend, she's incredibly affectionate and loyal, but she likes a little time to figure things out first. Because of that, she'll likely be easiest to place as an only dog, especially for our out-of-state adopters whose resident dogs aren't able to meet her beforehand. She's done well with other dogs after proper introductions, but we don't want to rush that process. Cats, however, are just a little too exciting for Raya, so we're looking for a cat-free home.
Raya forms deep bonds with her people and loves with her whole heart. She isn't a dog who wants to spend all day by herself. Her foster uses a sturdy crate when needed to help with some separation anxiety and keep her out of puppy mischief. If you're gone 8-10 hours most days with little time together, Raya probably isn't the right match.
This girl has survived heartbreak, learned to trust again, and is ready to pour all that love into a family of her own. If you think you're the perfect home for Raya, apply at the link below and tell us why.
