MEET RICH! Aka Richie aka Richard aka the goodest of good boys. On walks, he keeps the leash loose, knows his sit and stay, and is quick to learn new commands with the help of a couple treats and praise. We think he's a Border Collie/English Lab mix, and his brilliant brain certainly fits the bill. He weighs about 50-55lbs, and after almost 3 months of fostering him and nursing him back to health after being rescued from the streets of New Mexico, I think he is around 1.5 years old. Richie was born to be someone's adventure buddy. He recalls beautifully on hikes, runs alongside his foster parents' bikes like a pro, and is always ready for the next outing. The amazing part? He picked it all up naturally. He's also a social butterfly. Richie has never met a dog he didn't want to be friends with. He happily wrestles with his 50-pound Pit Bull foster sister, gently adjusts his play style for smaller dogs and puppies, and his favorite game is being chasedoften ending with a goofy somersault when he's finally caught. Aggression simply isn't part of who he is. Richie is incredibly smart and eager to learn. With a little training and consistency, he'll become an exceptional companion. He happily trots into his kennel when asked, though he hasn't been trained to spend long stretches in it yet. And because he's such a clever, active dog, he'll need regular exercise and mental challenges. Without them, he'll invent his own entertainmentwhich may include chewing or enthusiastically redecorating your yard with a few holes. Give him adventures, puzzles, and a job to do, and he'll absolutely shine. He's also been living with a hands-on three-year-old and has been nothing but patient, gentle, and kind. Right now, Richie is waiting for someone to see the incredible dog he already isand the even more amazing dog he's ready to become. He doesn't need a perfect home, just one willing to invest in him.
