My Story

Meet Rupert, an 11-pound Miniature Poodle mix with a fluffy coat, a young spirit, and a heart that just needs a little time to feel safe. At only 1.5 years old, this handsome little gentleman is proof that patience and kindness can completely change a dogs world. When Rupert first arrived, the big, unfamiliar world felt pretty overwhelming. But he scored an incredible foster mama who gave him exactly what he needed: space, understanding, and the chance to come around at his own pace. The transformation was almost immediate. Within an hour of settling into his foster home, Rupert was showing his sweet personality and beginning to seek out love and affection. Rupert is a total sweetheart who adores pets, enjoys snuggling up in cozy spots for a nap, and happily sleeps wherever he chooses in his foster home. Hes house trained, tolerates baths like a proper little gentleman, and once he trusts you, he doesnt mind being picked up and loved on. Hes also a respectful roommate who doesnt chew things he shouldnt, enjoys small bones, and has mastered the adorable all done cue complete with a jazz hands gesture. Mealtime is one of his favorite spectator sports, and while he wont demand your food, hell certainly sit nearby hoping a tasty bite accidentally makes its way to the floor. Rupert does need a family who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. New people can make him nervous, but when given a calm introduction and a little patience, he usually warms up in about 15 minutes and lets his true personality shine. Because of this, he would do best in a home with older children who understand how to respect his space and allow him to approach on his own terms. While Rupert prefers a quieter, more predictable home where sudden noises and chaos are kept to a minimum, dont mistake him for a couch potato. This young boy has plenty of energy and absolutely loves being outside. Hell need an adopter who is excited to provide daily activity, playtime, and adventures. Rupert also loves other dogs and enjoys making canine friends, though his enthusiasm can sometimes be a little over the top, so a dog companion who is tolerant of his playful personality would be the best match. A fenced yard is not required, but it would be a wonderful bonus for Ruperts love of the outdoors. His future family should know that this clever little guy is also an excellent inspector of fence lines and will investigate any gaps or weak spots he can find, so a secure environment and careful supervision are a must. Rupert may not be the dog who runs up to every stranger looking for attention, but for the person willing to let him set the pace, the reward is immeasurable. Behind those cautious eyes is a loyal, loving, goofy little companion who is ready to spend his days by your side, soaking up pets, chasing sunshine, and enjoying all the comforts of a home where he finally feels safe. His minimum adoption fee is $400 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
