My Story

EXERCISE NEEDS: Daily Workout EASE OF TRAINING: Capable FRIENDLINESS WITH PEOPLE: Loves Everyone PLAYFULNESS: Semi-Pro FRIENDLINESS WITH DOGS: Social LEASH MANNERS: Pulls Sometimes Meet Seymour: The Professional Cuddle Expert Age: 2 Year Old Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix If you are looking for the most calm, loving, and well-adjusted dog in the building, look no further than Seymour. While his name is a play on his partial vision, the truth is that Seymour "sees" more with his heart than most dogs. After a year in our care, he has become the staff favorite for his gentle soul and his absolute dedication to the art of the lounge. Seymour came to us as a puppy in November 2024, and has been looking for the right people ever since. His sweet and gentle, cuddly personality made him a staff favorite and we cannot figure out how or why he is still here! Everyone who has ever taking him out on a Doggy Date or kept him for a Sleepover have amazing things to say about how well he behaves outside of the shelter, but he just has not found the right fit yet. Why Seymour is the Perfect Companion? 1. He believes snuggling is his full-time job. If you're on the couch, he wants to be right there with you. 2.He's a social butterfly and truly loves every human he meets and gets along famously with other dogs. 3.He accepts treats and food with the utmost politeness. 4. Unlike some pups, Seymour is a dream in the car and loves going for rides to see the world. 5. Though he has some vision impairment, his "internal GPS" is top-notch. He navigates most environments with impressive ease. Life With Seymour: Because Seymour is deaf, he relies on his other senses-especially his sense of connection to his people. He thrives on companionship and can sometimes be a bit vocal when he realizes his favorite humans aren't in the room. He isn't being "loud"; he's just calling out for a little reassurance that you're still nearby! Training & Tools Seymour is a fast learner! Because he can see shapes and movement, he has excelled with hand signals and sign language. We have had great success using Acorns DEAFinitely Awesome Dictionary of Signs, which makes communicating with him fun and easy. There are also vibration collars that can be used to assist training for dogs that are hearing impaired. All of these tools are available online! Seymour is a living testament to the fact that a "special needs" dog is really just a "special" dog who has so much more love to give. Are you ready to be the person this handsome boy has been waiting a year for? Come meet our favorite professional lounger today!
