My Story

Meet Snickers -- a resilient little soul with the sweetest heart imaginable. Snickers came from the heartbreaking 40-dog puppy mill case in DeKalb County and was later transferred to DeKalb Humane after intake. Although his past was far from easy, you would never know it by the love and gentleness he shows everyone he meets. Snickers is slowly discovering what it means to simply be a dog -- soft beds, kind hands, toys, treats, and the comfort of feeling safe. So much of the world is still new to him, but each day he grows more confident and curious. Watching him learn to trust and enjoy the little things is truly special. He does have a slight head bob caused by neurological issues, likely related to his difficult beginnings, but overall he is doing very well. It doesn't define him or slow him down -- it simply makes this already unique boy even more special. Through it all, Snickers remains incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager for love. Snickers is the kind of dog who deserves a patient family willing to help him continue his journey toward a happy, normal life. With time, understanding, and compassion, he will absolutely flourish. After everything he has been through, Snickers is finally getting the chance to experience the life every dog deserves -- and he is more than ready to find a forever home filled with love.An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice. Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00
