My Story

There's nothing quite like young dog sweetness and goofiness! These super-smart and very loving and loyal young pups are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them lost and alone on a city street or in a high-kill shelter with euthanasia pending due to a lack of space. Tessa is a cute as can be Pug / Chihuahua mix (according to New Mexico veterinarians..all we know for certain is that she's absolutely adorable and irresistible!). Tessa is currently between 2 and 3 years old and weighs a tiny 13 lbs of pure love! Tessa is starting out with great energy and a very sweet and kind nature. At between 2 and 3 years old, our sensitive girl may be initially shy. This makes perfect sense in that her life has been turned upside down in the last month or so. Spending time at a high-kill shelter is enough to frighten any dog! Tessa's New Mexico rescuer is thrilled to inform us that this young pup is blossoming. After just a short time in foster care, she sees that Tessa seems happier and braver in her environment. She's emerging into an adorable and fun- loving ball of love and sweetness.. We know that the long transport between New Mexico and Colorado will be challenging for our sweet girl, but with love and patience, we know she'll come around and thrive. Tessa is so beautiful...with a stunning tricolor coat that speaks of her breed mix. Tessa's forever family will need to make a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. We have found through our research and experience that a human grade, fresh diet is by far the best choice for a dog's long-term health as well as longevity. While it is a more expensive choice, it will result in far fewer veterinarian visits as well as a longer, healthier life. Our choice is Chi Dog (chidog.com) for the health of your best friend. Tessa is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. Once this pup is comfortable with all the changes in her life, She'll be so loving and cuddly. This snuggly girl will be very excited to be a couch or bed dog and snuggle next to her favorite people at the end of an active day. Even at her young age, it's clear that Tessa is SO smart and sweet - very typical of the Pug / Chi personality. Some would say that both these breeds are among the most intelligent and engaging in the dog world. Since Tessa is just a young girl, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Tessa will form firm bonds with her family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a dog's ultimate behavior and in her relationship and bonding with her people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Tessa out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual or in-person trainers in your area. We're open to Tessa finding her forever home with dog-crazy retirees with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart young dog. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a dog that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day. Tessa enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development. Tessa will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She will also be spayed to stay true to our hopes for a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. If interested in this sweet as can be best friend, applications are currently being accepted. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Tessa, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
