My Story
Zillo (ACCT-A-252052) is a 1-year-old male who came in as a stray on 6/4. Zillo has been an extremely fearful boy so far in shelter, and has been largely asocial & often tries to hide in little crevices in the spaces he's in. However, while it has been a slower process, Zillo has shown that he will warm up some with treats, coaxing, and a lot of patience. His behavior has all been fear-based, and he has shown no signs of aggression. This sweet pup has allowed pets all over with gradual increase, and even being picked up after some adjustment! Please give our pal Zillo a chance to become more zen!

BEHAVIORAL:
Per staff about dog meet on 6/8:
"Tolerant and good greetings"
Per exam on 6/8:
"Kennel Presentation: In the back of the crate with tense body, eyes darting and ears to the side when I approached.
Leash Skills:Tried a treat lure to leash, ended up need to lasso. Once leash was on he came out of the crate then froze. He let me pick him up and carry him outside. Once outside he walks all the way at the end of the leash. When we got to the kennels in WC he pulled towards the dogs and then would not walk anymore. I was able to pick up again and bring to the yard.
Sociability: Asocial. Exit searching. hid under the bench.
Play: n/a
Dog Interaction: Met Koda. Good greetings and then moved away.
Return to Kennel: Walked all the way back to the kennel with Koda. His tail was up, loose body and soft eyes. Hesitated to go in the crate. Tossed treats and was able to remove leash
Color Level: Exp Blue"
Per staff on 6/7:
"In AM, transitioned from one crate to another, as he'd thoroughly mussed his. He shimmied as close as he could to the back of the crate and shied away from the leash, but at one point started moving forward on his own and effectively looped himself. Conveniently dashed right into the crate I was aiming to place him in. Removed loop with shepherd's hook to be safe, but didn't observe any defensive reactivity (just wide eyes and trembling).
In PM, brought into the volunteer office for a hangout session. Looped up pretty easily, though he shied away from the leash again. Would buck with leash pressure, but when coaxed with low posture, gentle chatter, and especially treats, would stay alongside me through the eval room. Repeatedly tried to hide / smoosh himself into nooks and crannies. Hesitated going through the door, but eventually with gradually increased touch, allowed me to pet his chin, head, back and shoulders, then pick him up and carry him to the office. Hung out under the desk on some blankets, happily accepted more treats, licked some peanut butter off a nylabone, trembled occasionally, but soon settled into trying to nap."
Per staff on 6/7 on dog meet:
"Tail tucked, wide eyes, good greetings moved away on his own"
Per staff on 6/5:
"He was in the back of the crate when I approached. Wide eyes, avoidant of eye contact and trembling. Tossed treats in and he only ate when they were right in front of him. I had to lasso to leash up and it took about 1-2 minutes with light leash pressure and a treat lure to come out of the crate. tail tucked, ears to the side and wide eyes. Brought Pork pie into the eval room in hopes another dog would bring him out of his shell. They sniffed each other, however he remained fearful and just wanted to put him self into a corner. I was able to do some gentle petting on his chest, side and chin. His body softened a bit. Took some time to lure back into the crate with treats."
Per staff on 6/5:
"ACA attempted to take out and bring to playgroup. Could not as he was failing on the leash."
