My Story

Meet Brenda! Brenda is a sweet Shih Tzu/Poodle mix who is ready for a fresh start. She was found as a stray and brought to JPAWS before making her way to the Jefferson SPCA. Shelter life was a little overwhelming for her, but once she got some one-on-one attention, her personality began to shine. Brenda was a perfect lady during her car ride to our adoption center and happily soaked up affection when we sat with her. One of the first things Brenda enjoyed after leaving the shelter was a much-needed spa day and hotel stay. Her coat had become heavily overgrown and matted, but thanks to Lynnette at Grooming Cottage, she's feeling like a brand-new dog. Going forward, she'll need regular professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to keep her comfortable and looking her best. Brenda is approximately 3 years old, spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and heartworm tested. Unfortunately, Brenda did test positive for heartworms. The good news is that the Jefferson SPCA will cover the cost of her heartworm treatment through one of our participating veterinary clinics. Her adopter simply purchases a 12-month supply of heartworm prevention at the start of treatment. Heartworm disease is treatable, and we're committed to helping Brenda get healthy. Brenda is still settling into her new surroundings, so we're learning more about her personality every day. Like many dogs who have experienced a lot of change, she may be a little cautious when meeting new people through a kennel barrier, but once she's with someone she trusts, she's shown us a gentle, affectionate side. If you're looking for a sweet little companion who deserves a second chance and are willing to help her continue blossoming into the confident dog she's meant to be, Brenda would love to meet you. If you'd like to meet me, stop by Jefferson Feed (corner of Jefferson Hwy. and Central Ave.). We kindly ask that visits be made earlier in the day, as the last hour before closing is reserved for medications and end-of-day care. Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and a heartworm test. Any dog that tests positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program. Adopter has to buy a year supply of heartworm prevention before treatment begins. Please note: this application is view-only in Dropbox and must be downloaded to your device to be completed.
