My Story

Millie is approximately 8-10 years old, a spayed Beagle mix who is up to date on all vaccines. She arrived at the sanctuary on 3/29/25, and she is approaching her first anniversary with us. She was found as a stray, and sadly, no one ever came looking for her. So we stepped in and brought her home to our crew because that's what we do. Millie is meek and gentle. Around bigger dogs, she tends to get pushed aside, and instead of causing a fuss, she quietly removes herself and sits alone. Given that many dogs surround us, we genuinely don't believe Millie has had the opportunity to come out of her shell fully. She keeps to herself. She stays reserved. But if you look into her eyes, you can see that she wants more. She wants her person. Millie would do best in a calm home with adults or older children only. Ideally, she would thrive as the only dog or with just one other laid-back companion. She does not like to feel overwhelmed. She enjoys peaceful surroundings and strolls. She is docile, gentle, and does beautifully on a leash. So why is this sweet girl still with us? Millie has a large mass on her shoulder that does not currently affect her. She also has a heart condition. And the truth is, people don't line up for older dogs with medical needs. We understand that medical conditions can feel overwhelming. But here's what makes us different: When you adopt from us, you are never alone. The sanctuary will help her adopter navigate her health needs and ensure she continues living comfortably in her new home. We will help with the cost of her heart medications. Even after adoption, we remain here to answer questions and support both you and Millie every step of the way. Despite her medical needs, Millie is still active. She still seeks out people. She still hopes. She is not done living. She is not done loving. She is simply waiting. If Millie is tugging at your heartstrings, please set up a meet-and-greet and get to know this adorable girl. Let's not let her second year at the sanctuary be another year without a family.
