My Story

Meet Belle!

Belle is a sweet 5-year-old beagle who is finally getting the chance to experience life beyond the confines of a hunting kennel. At approximately 17.4 pounds, this petite girl is looking for a patient and compassionate family willing to help her discover that she is valued for so much more than her past.

Like her best friend Blue, Belle was originally kept as a hunting dog. When life didn't go as planned, she spent years with very limited human interaction, living in conditions that left her with little opportunity to learn what it means to be a cherished family companion. As a result, Belle is still learning to trust people and navigate the world around her.

Fortunately, Belle is now safely in a foster home in St. Louis, where she and Blue are beginning a brand-new chapter. While she can be shy and uncertain in unfamiliar situations, she has the comfort of having Blue by her side. The two shared a kennel in their previous home and have formed a strong bond through their shared experiences. They love spending time together, playing together, and helping each other feel secure. Because of this special connection, Belle and Blue will need to be adopted together.

Belle will benefit from a patient family that understands that trust takes time. She may not immediately understand things that many dogs take for granted, such as living in a home, walking on a leash, or receiving affection from people. However, every day in foster care gives her new opportunities to learn and build confidence.

Belle is currently being treated for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia, two tick-borne illnesses that are common in dogs and treatable with proper veterinary care. We will continue to monitor her progress and provide updates as needed. Before traveling to Seattle, Belle will be microchipped, vaccinated, fecal tested, and started on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

A securely fenced yard will be required for Belle and Blue. We also believe they would benefit from a calm, understanding home environment. If possible, a confident resident dog could be a wonderful role model, helping them learn that family life is safe and enjoyable. Because both dogs are still gaining confidence around people, a home with older children, ideally age 12 and up, would likely be the best fit.

Belle's journey is only beginning, and we expect to learn much more about her personality as she settles into foster care. What we already know is that she is a survivor who deserves kindness, patience, and a chance to experience the life every dog should have.

If you have room in your heart and home for two deserving beagles who are ready to leave their past behind, Belle and Blue may be waiting for you.
